Continuing Our Retrouvaille Experience
Quick what are the building blocks of a good marriage???
There are 14 of them. And you need ALL of them to make a marriage work.
The Building Blocks of a Good Marriage are:
But today we are going to talk about play and humor.
When was the last time you laughed together. Not just a giggle or a chuckle or a snicker, but a full out guffaw, you know where you hold your belly and the tears just roll unchecked down your cheeks? The last time we played the newlywed game there was a lot of that going on. We discovered that one of our guys favorite hobbies was playing with a flame thrower and that one of our women had more than 50 purses. What will we find out this year? Come to CORE and find out!
When: Saturday, February 14 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
What is it? A time of prayer and reflection when we choose our leaders.
Can I be involved? Absolutely! We need you! And everyone who attends the meeting gets a vote!
What positions are being discerned next?
That’s a lot of positions! Do we need people for each of them? Some of these positions are already held by volunteer couples but we need to formally rediscern them for their next term.
Where do I get more information? Simply reply to this email and we would be happy to help you out!
When is Discernment? Saturday, March 14; 6 pm, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church
A Note from our International Leaders: Fr. Jaime Hinojos, and Albert & Bertha Fresquez
Dear Family of Retrouvaille,
Happy New Year to each and every one of you! It is January of the New Year and we find ourselves reflecting on all of the blessings that God brought our way in 2014 and feeling grateful and thankful. We found that the challenges we faced brought us ways to pray harder and to ask God for his wisdom and guidance. That deeper prayer brought us closer to God and a calm sense that God accepts and loves all of us, no matter what we are facing in our lives. That wonderful sense of acceptance also came into focus as members of the Retrouvaille community gathered in Durban, South Africa for the International Council meeting and met so many other faith filled couples, families and priests, representing communities from around the world and from the communities of South Africa.
Now we look forward to hearing about all of the regional gatherings that will take place this year, giving the opportunity for couples and priests to come together, worship and pray, learn about each other’s communities and to have fun, celebrating with
couples and priests that live the Retrouvaille way of life. We know that the communities of Phoenix, Phoenix Español and Retrouvaille of Southern Arizona are hard at work for to provide a wonderful, faith filled and fun experience for all of you at the International Council Meeting this October! We hope that you will make efforts to be there!
All of the teams and priests on the International Board, (IB) are looking forward to serving you, and helping you, to serve as many of the Friday Night Couples that you can reach out to and to help you grow strong and resilient communities. This year begins with the addition of new board members, Clive and Kathy Jones and Fr. Anthony Jackson of England, your new Expansion and Development Team, Rest of the World; and Fr. Anthony Aarons, TOR, of Winter Park, Florida, who joins Tom and Betsy Berdis on the Resource and Enrichment Team! We extend our heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to the IB. We encourage each of you to write to them and extend your welcome. All of the IB’s addresses are located on the website under International Board → Contact International Board. We have great faith that they will do their very best to serve your needs and help to strengthen Retrouvaille around the world. May God bless them always!
We also want to give our heartfelt and deepest “Thank You” to the outgoing board members, Gregorio and Elaine Montecer, and Padre Angel Francisco Flores-Islas and to Fr. Jean-Louis Mathieu. They each served on the board with great integrity, faith and wisdom, we thank you and feel blessed to have served alongside each of you.
We would also like to add our congratulations and welcome to community coordinators and board members from communities around the world! This will be an exciting year and we have faith that your communities’ confidence in each of you to serve the Friday Night Couples in your areas is well deserved. May God bless each of you and your communities.
There are other events and happenings that we would like to share with you in hopes that you can share with your communities and attend.
In February, the papal prayer intention for evangelization is for SEPARATED SPOUSES. Specifically, Pope Francis is asking the universal church to pray “that married people who are separated may find welcome and support in the Christian community.” We are that Christian community where married people find welcome and support, so all of our prayers for Retrouvaille are already united with this intention. Can you go the extra mile and talk to your pastor and your diocese? Can you ask them what you can do to help raise awareness of this prayer intention? In doing so, you will also raise their awareness of your community and the good you are doing.
February 8, 2015 is World Marriage Day. While this is an observance sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, it might be worth asking your local parish or diocese about their plans. Do they need a hand? Is there an event that might enrich the members of your community? This is another potential opportunity to get the word out about Retrouvaille or at least come together as a community for enrichment and fellowship.
Finally, the World Meeting of Families (WMF) is coming to Philadelphia this fall. It has been announced that Pope Francis will attend, making this only the fourth time in history that a Pope has visited America. The IB is working with Delaware Valley Retrouvaille community to ensure that our ministry is well represented at the event itself, but that is only the tip of the iceberg when we think of how this historic event can help us reach out to hurting couples around the world. The WMF organizing committee has published 10 themes, one for each month leading up to the event, along with materials for reflection on those themes. These materials are intended to prepare attendees for the event, but they are also useful for community enrichment. You could build a CORE presentation around one of the topics. You could even work with your church or diocese to conduct a series of presentations covering the themes. Those events might provide some useful immediate publicity.
We hope that you will give each of these items some time to read and reflect. We want to thank Chris and Rosemarie and Fr. Terry, your Deputy International Coordinating Team, for providing these valuable tools. We also want to express our sincere and humble gratitude to each of you, in your communities, for your kind words and compassionate hearts for the Friday Night Couples. Without you, Retrouvaille does not grow to reach out to the couples that need this program.
It is truly our privilege to work alongside each of you, and to know that you care so deeply for hurting marriages throughout the world. You are the driving force and the heartbeat of this Ministry.
Our prayer will be that God will continue to bless you, and guide you to hear his voice, especially when you think he may not be listening but you need him the most.
We end our greeting with the ten point plan for happiness that Pope Francis shared, earlier in 2014, when he gave an interview for the Argentina magazine, Viva, <http://www.clarin.com/sociedad/Gran-repercusion-exclusiva-Viva Papa_0_1183081740.html> , which was released to celebrate Francis' first 500 days in office.
